Reiki

The word Reiki is Japanese and is formed by Rei, meaning universal and Ki meaning life force or energy.

It is a system of natural healing researched and developed over many years by Dr Mikao Usui.

This vital life force, Reiki, flows through all living things, it can be focused, channelled and activated for the purpose of healing. This healing can occur on the physical, emotional, spiritual and mental level.

How Reiki Works

Reiki is a “hands-on” healing process where the practitioner acts as a channel for the healing energy. Reiki works at a deep level and is a channelled to where it is most needed to encourage the natural flow of energy within the person. Reiki stimulates the body’s ability to heal itself and it helps one to create choices for living a happier and healthier life.

Reiki Sessions

These can last approximately 30 to 60 minutes. Clients are treated, fully clothed and the practitioner places their hands on or over the body in various positions, channelling the energy to the client. During the session the client may experience a sensation of warmth, cold or tingling. This is followed by a deep sense of relaxation and feeling of wellbeing.

After a Reiki Session

Reiki will affect people differently – it is a very personal experience. After a session, energy is likely to continue to flow for up to 48 hours. It is important to drink plenty of water to help “flush out” toxins within the body. After Reiki, some people may experience vivid dreams, feel emotional and re-energised. Such experiences occur because of energy shifts within you.

Who Can Have Reiki?

Reiki supports all forms of orthodox and complementary treatments.

It is safe for almost everyone, including children and the elderly. It is unsuitable, however, for those with pacemakers.

Acute injuries can be helped to heal quickly, whereas chronic illnesses may take longer.

Reiki is not a religion or faith system. All that is necessary is the desire to heal and to be whole.
